Your wish is my command!

Now that I am a bride-to-be, I understand all the things brides don’t want to hear. Griping. Complaints about dresses/shoes/jewelry. Anything negative that’s directed at YOUR wedding. Thankfully, I have incredible friends and bridesmaids who have all said “whatever you want!” (I seriously love them!)

We are getting ready to place the order for our J. Crew bridesmaid dresses and I couldn’t be happier. I LOVE that my bridesmaids and I will be wearing J. Crew on my big day. Their dresses are just SO classy! And can definitely be worn again, right? I know everyone says that but I really believe it with J. Crew. They are very versatile and who doesn’t love to dress up fancy for a night out? I truly did want to find a dress that they would be comfortable in, loved, and could potentially use again. Maybe not as a “wear every-other week” dress or “wear to work” dress, but something that could be reworn to an event later on.

For a while I was torn between the J. Crew ones and Alfred Sung styles (pictured above) – but ultimately, the girls picked the J. Crew ones. They’re going to look so stunning! Color and styles will remain secret – until the big day of course! Both J. Crew and Alfred Sung offered FREE sample swatches – which helped us decide the color. We had a very specific look in our minds, so it was easy for us to decide the color.
I have yet to book the florist (or even call any)… and time is ticking. But I did get this really adorable stamp for our post-wedding thank-you notes!

Nothing better

To me, there’s nothing better (or sweeter) than a hand written note. Whether it’s a follow up to an interview, a “just because” or a thank-you for the super awesome gift note, handwritten is a MUST. (This is arguable on the interview one, but this is a wedding blog, so focus on the “Thank You” note)!

We display all of our Thank You notes on our fridge  – for probably far too long, but sometimes it’s nice to just look back and relive the memory. Each of these cards reminds us of special times with friends that we feel very lucky to have in our lives.

Timelines tend to differ on the amount of time you have to write these after your wedding (but don’t forget about writing them after showers & parties too!), this one says it should be no later than 3 months after the gift is received. After our engagement party, we divided the list of names of folks that were kind enough to attend and wrote notes to each of them. It took us maybe an hour to do them all  – but best of all, it made us smile all over again thinking about how much fun our night was and how awesome our friends and family are.

There are so many options for thank you notes these days too, you can do folded, postcards (as seen above from Michelle & Ian’s fabulous wedding – HAPPY 6 MONTH ANNIVERSARY, love birds!), you can even have stationary created with your new initials, your married monogram or a picture, and still write the note on the paper. You’ve got options… so there are no excuses! Check out Etsy for some creative options!

Having typed notes isn’t the worst thing in the world… not sending them at all takes the cake on that one. We’ve been to 3 weddings that we didn’t get thank you notes from. The first one, I thought maybe our card got separated from our gift and they didn’t know we brought anything but after the other two happened, I chalked it up to laziness. People are taking time out of their lives to celebrate with you – a thank you note is the simplest thing to do, to show them that you care about them too.

Practice your hand writing now and show some love through the mail!

Happy Monday!

Honeymooners

I thought today’s post would be about food, especially since we were both starving after talking about food with our caterer. Y’all get ready, our wedding food is going to be DELISH! But today… I’m going to talk about our honeymoon.

We have been ALL over the place with where we want to go… I started with a hut in Bora Bora which was countered by Europe/Greece from my sweet Fiance. Then, I compromised with 2 islands in Hawaii (Maui & Kauai) so that we could do the exploring that he wanted, along with the butt-in-the-sand time that I wanted, and was countered with several options in the Caribbean. With it being August, I’m hesitant to visit ANYWHERE in the Caribbean, even though my favorite co-worker tells me Aruba is far enough out of the hurricane belt that I shouldn’t have to worry about anything. We both LOVE the idea of the Galapagos Islands (flora + fauna + GREAT WHITES, oh my!) but it appears to be next to impossible to find lodging there.

We have ruled out Jamaica, Bahamas and anywhere in Mexico since we’ve traveled there before. Although each of them have their pretty and near perfect spots, we don’t feel the need to revisit any of them.
37423_640368798943_6875587_nLuckily, we still have time to make this decision. A timeline in Carolina Bride magazine recommends booking 4-6 months in advance. Our countdown is at 6.5 months and I’m not feeling TOO much pressure on this issue. Now that we’ve knocked out the catering, our next task is the flowers. And your next task is to vote for us to win this trip to the Caribbean from Wedding Paper Divas + Sandals. If we win, you will have helped select our honeymoon destination – but we need your help to win! All you have to do is click here, “like” Wedding Paper Divas on Facebook, and then click “vote” once a day for the rest of the week. Got it? Ok, go! (and thank you in advance!)
