When to do what!

I’ve gotten some questions lately about when to send gifts, when to send Thank Yous and of course, how long can you wait to do either?

First of all, if you’re going to the wedding and it’s a reasonable sized gift, you can always take it with you (hint, hint: card with cash!). If it’s a large gift, you’re in the wedding, or you don’t want to make the bride + groom lug the gift home after the wedding, you can have it shipped to them in advance – most websites like Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, Bed Bath & Beyond and Target do this for free or a small fee. Most people wait to send wedding gifts until the 2 month range prior to the wedding, or when one can assume showers/engagement parties are over. If the couple sends you a message saying they are having a small ceremony this year or going to the courthouseĀ and plan to do something bigger with the whole family/friends crowd next year, it’s acceptable to wait until the bigger party, but certainly okay to go ahead and send them something (they did just get married!).

If you’re on the receiving end of the gifts, it’s in your best interest to write those thank yous as you receive the gifts – I promise you will be glad you did later! If you just can’t bring yourself to write thank yous before the wedding, keep a detailed list of who sent what so that when you do have time, you’ll be able to write detailed notes. In the event you don’t receive any gifts shipped to your home pre-wedding (doubt this will happen), you have up to 6 months to write your thank yous after the wedding. I would advise you not to take the full six months. Sit down each evening for a week after your honeymoon and split the list with your hubby and bust out 10 a piece each night, you’ll have it done before you know it and guests will appreciate the quick acknowledgement of how much you loved their gift. The Knot has a great guide for Thank You notes that will help you with this task.

As with everything else in life, you’re better off being early than late šŸ˜‰

Happy Earth Day!

In celebration of Earth Day, I’d like to share with you some eco-friendly wedding items that I’ve stumbled across.

First of all, our napkins, which we ordered from The Knot’s wedding shop:The Knot Wedding Shop

While slightly more expensive than the non-eco friendly ones, we figured, why not help Earth out so we can live on it together for a little longer? They are currently on sale for $36.99 for 100 napkins, and you can customize them to say anything you want!

Secondly, we ordered biodegradeable straws for the wedding from Shop Sweet LuLu (thanks again, Michelle!) and we’re totally smitten with the designs. There are so many to choose from!

Chevron Paper Straws: Soft Grey
Now, we are still on the hunt for the P-E-R-F-E-C-TĀ  invitations for our big day, but I have found several sites that offer eco-friendly invitations (and also recommend having RSVPs online instead of through the mail!).

  1. Great Green Wedding
  2. Earthly Affair
  3. Minted

Hopefully this decision will come this week, since we have less than 120 days until our wedding!

Go recycle something and turn off the lights when you leave the room, Happy Earth Day!

Knot what I wanted

Yesterday, I got an email from The Knot Wedding ShopĀ that they were having a big sale. And anyone who knows me knows that I love a good sale. I finally found time to check it out as I was laying down for bed last night and I personalized the cutest beverage napkins (eco-friendly!)Ā for our wedding. I kept getting rejected when I was placing the order – they weren’t accepting PayPal, Credit Card payment resulted in a “null” message taking me back to the checkout screen (twice)… so I gave up on the adorable napkins. And my phone buzzed with an email. “You have authorized payment from PayPal to The Knot.”

Did you just say “uh-oh?” Because I did. I checked my bank account and sure enough, there were also 2 charges there. Totalling 900 napkins and $90 dollars. Good news, we’ll have lots of left over napkins for our scrapbook? I’ve been emailing and filling out forms all day – hopefully they will cancel 2 of the orders. Their website does say they’ll do whatever it takes to make you 100% satisfied. Either way, we’re going to have adorable napkins at our wedding and they were on sale for a great price.

In other news:

  • We have ALL of the bridesmaid dresses and they are so amazing. I am tickled pink with how this turned out! They are all the same color but all different styles. Can’t wait to see these gals in them!
  • Both moms have purchased potential outfits for the wedding. I say potential because if they’re anything like me, they’ll find something else in the next 6 months that they like better. (Yes, I need to not look at any more wedding gowns).
  • I purchased shoes for the wedding – eeek! MY wedding shoes! (ps – they are Lilly Pultizer and to-die-for!)
  • I have a hair appointment for April 18th for a test run for the wedding-do.

So we are still truckin’ along, but also still don’t have a florist. But we will… we will have flowers!
