Stationary Saturday

I want to spend today highlighting some more of the awesome items in the BIG BUCKET LIST GIVEAWAY. I LOVE stationary of all sorts (and love is probably an understatement – ask my husband!). I have drawers full of monogrammed stationary, cards just in case, notepads depending on my mood, meal planning notepads, gold foil notebooks, striped notebooks… you get the point. I obsessively purchase stationary items. And I’m excited to offer a few in this giveaway from from really awesome designers.

I started following Evelyn Henson on Instagram after stumbling across her gorgeous paintings. Those flowers could brighten up ANY day! I thought her “Take the bull by the horns” journal was PERFECT for this giveaway. I believe you should give 110% to everything you do and more than that, take charge of your own life, career, path. I’m incredibly frustrated by people who sit back and wait for things to happen, or who ask for help but don’t want to put in any work. So… don’t be those people. Take the bull by the horns and do big things. And check out Evelyn Henson while you’re at it, or enter the giveaway for a shot to win this journal (valued at $29.50).

I found Laura of LHCalligraphy when I was planning my wedding and was completely smitten with her calligraphy. Isn’t it gorgeous? She not only makes cool things like this journal but also stationary, cards, and adorable mugs. I highly recommend entering to win this journal in the giveaway, but also checking out her other fun goodies (especially if you’re planning a wedding!). Oh and did I mention that addition to this journal, you will also win the stationary from Sugar and Type?

These cards literally made me squeal when I opened the package. They are so cute and creative! Each card retails for $3-4 dollars in Ilana’s shop. So with the journal and stationary combined, you can not only make your own day ridiculously awesome, but someone else’s, too! I totally believe in the power of handwritten notes. People LOVE getting mail. You will be spreading cheer all throughout the year!

This gem of a planner is all the way from Australia! MiGoals generously donated this and it could be yours for donating just $10 to the great cause of helping breast cancer survivors cross items off of their bucket lists. Have you ever thought about how expensive healthcare can be for someone battling cancer? There are lots of things that get pushed aside in those times and that’s why we’re helping out! So grateful for this gorgeous planner (valued at $29.89) being donated and slightly jealous of the person who will get to plan 2015 in it. (GO ENTER THE GIVEAWAY for your shot at it!).

This planner (valued at $18) from Nude and Loitering Tees reminds us to just say “yes.” Did you ever watch the movie Yes Man? While it was a corny movie (sorry, Jim), it was also pretty darn clever. Teaching us to let down our guard and say yes to new adventures. You never know where life will take you if you’re just along for the ride. (I am in no way encouraging you to say yes to everything or yes to quitting your job and hiking around the world, but hey, do whatever floats your boat). This message makes me happy and I think seeing it every day in 2015 can be inspiring to someone. Let that someone be YOU. Give just $10 to put a smile on someone else’s face (a complete stranger!) and be entered to win!

Customized Wedding Guest Book
Customized Wedding Guest Book

Last but not least, this GORGEOUS customized guest book was generously donated by ForLovePolkaDots and will be designed for the winner. How appropriate since my blog started out as a wedding blog?! This will surely be classic for years to come and will preserve the memories from your special day forever. Have I told you how much I love monogrammed items? Because I LOVE monogrammed items. We did a fingerprint tree at our wedding, but if we had done something else, I’m guessing it would have been along the lines of this book (valued at $40). Know someone getting married in 2015? Tell them to go enter or go check out the shop to order their own!

So many AMAZING items to give away and so many more smiles to bring to the faces of the ladies who modeled at the Pretty in Pink Foundation‘s Fashion Walk and Gala. Thank you for being a part of this amazing cause and thank you again to the amazing people who donated their incredible items (you are all so talented!).

Feel the love

It’s no secret around my house that I love stationary. I love picking up cards (that I might send to someone, someday), I love sweet “thank you” notes, I love monogrammed stationary, I love magnetic stationary that can hang on my fridge and serve the purpose of a quick note to my husband to find when he wakes up or gets home from work, and the list goes on! I love stationary so much that I’m having a GIVEAWAY with some of these adorable mini love notes I purchased on Etsy. Follow me (@ashleighwnc) on Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram and then leave a comment on the blog that you’ve done so and you are entered to win the love notes and a print from Southern Weddings (all rules are posted on the original blog post!).
Screen Shot 2013-09-08 at 10.24.32 AMThis week, in addition to the darling love notes, I also ordered some notepads from The Fine Line Market for all those little notes we leave each other in the house. After all, little notes are how my engagement weekend started! I got myself some monogrammed ones, and some that say “The Whites” for us both to use. Great deal at only $20 a piece – and the monogrammed one came in multiple colors!
monogrammed notepadI also ordered these cute menu planners. Now that I am not planning a wedding or in grad school, I have time to cook dinners with more than 5 ingredients and more than 3 steps, and I can try some of my Pinterest recipes! I thought these would be helpful as we prepare for the week (and before I go to the grocery store).

I’ve also been eyeing these “Brilliant Ideas” pads from Ashley Brooke Designs but I think I prefer monogrammed notepads.

And now that I’m married (and starting the name-changing process) I could use some new monogrammed cards from Emily Ley, but I can’t decide which design I like best! Below is what I had before, but I think new name = new design.

For now, I think I’ve got enough to get me through at least a couple months. Especially since our wedding photos should arrive this week and we’ll be getting started on designing a “thank you” note with those. What are your favorite stationary shops? I am always up for new & creative designs!

Paper Goods

I have a slight obsession with stationary, and greeting cards, and apparently also with wedding invitation samples. Maybe not so much an obsession with the samples, but with finding THE RIGHT ONE. It took us a little bit of time to decide on the save-the-dates, but not nearly as long as it is for the invitations. And here we are, coming down to the wire and we’re still going in circles about which ones we like best.
invites

Here is our kitchen table with MOST of the samples that I’ve ordered, from various places, such as: Wedding Paper Divas, The Green Kangaroo, and Exclusively Weddings – we have about 25 all together. The thing is, I can’t pick JUST ONE. There are certain things I like about some of them, and other things I like about others, but they aren’t all on the same invitation. Someone told me a while back about Salutations in Ballantyne, and that we could basically design our own there, but between work, grad school, and regular ol’ life, we haven’t had the time.

There are about a million sites that you can order invitations from, and I really appreciate the ones that offer samples (and free samples are even better!). It’s so hard to pick THE PERFECT ONE that will forever be “our wedding invitation.” Do we want artwork? Do we want our names in big calligraphy letters? Do we want white paper or colored? Ugh! Toooo many options – and still trying to not break the bank with the invitations, envelopes, RSVP cards.

I know I want classy, and simple, and definitely in our wedding colors. My groom is a little more artistic than I am and prefers some sort of design, and apparently does not like “big names” on the invitation. So, we’re still at square one with this decision, and have about 8 weeks before we need to be mailing these bad boys out. I see a quick game of eenie, meenie, miney, mo in our near future!

What are your best invitation recommendations? Favorite vendors or websites? I would LOVE to hear about them!

Bake me a cake!

Not too much to update on today (still don’t have a florist, or hair stylist!) but we did email a “cake lady” about our dessert buffet (stomach growl!) and our mini-cake for cutting/photo purposes. Waiting to hear back on her availability – and fingers crossed we do not get yet another “I’m sorry” email. I do not understand how anyone can plan a wedding in less than 8 months with the way things are booking up! Kudos to you quick brides who obviously on-top of it and have eyes on vendors perhaps before the ring?

Wedding Paper Diva’s is still offering their stamp for 50% off (Code 50DEAL0207). Ours arrived yesterday in the tiniest package ever (that was the text I received from my future husband!) … and it’s perfect! We can’t wait to stamp those thank you notes after the wedding with our “Whites” stamp! Get yours today…. it’s perfect for all of those handwritten notes you send in life!

Happy hump day, y’all!

Your wish is my command!

Now that I am a bride-to-be, I understand all the things brides don’t want to hear. Griping. Complaints about dresses/shoes/jewelry. Anything negative that’s directed at YOUR wedding. Thankfully, I have incredible friends and bridesmaids who have all said “whatever you want!” (I seriously love them!)

We are getting ready to place the order for our J. Crew bridesmaid dresses and I couldn’t be happier. I LOVE that my bridesmaids and I will be wearing J. Crew on my big day. Their dresses are just SO classy! And can definitely be worn again, right? I know everyone says that but I really believe it with J. Crew. They are very versatile and who doesn’t love to dress up fancy for a night out? I truly did want to find a dress that they would be comfortable in, loved, and could potentially use again. Maybe not as a “wear every-other week” dress or “wear to work” dress, but something that could be reworn to an event later on.

For a while I was torn between the J. Crew ones and Alfred Sung styles (pictured above) – but ultimately, the girls picked the J. Crew ones. They’re going to look so stunning! Color and styles will remain secret – until the big day of course! Both J. Crew and Alfred Sung offered FREE sample swatches – which helped us decide the color. We had a very specific look in our minds, so it was easy for us to decide the color.
I have yet to book the florist (or even call any)… and time is ticking. But I did get this really adorable stamp for our post-wedding thank-you notes!

Wedding Paper Divas has a 50% off deal on their stamps today – check it out and order one! Great deal for brides-to-be, single folks and those of you that have already tied the knot! Something you can use long after the thank you notes are written and you’re on your way to growing old together!

Nothing better

To me, there’s nothing better (or sweeter) than a hand written note. Whether it’s a follow up to an interview, a “just because” or a thank-you for the super awesome gift note, handwritten is a MUST. (This is arguable on the interview one, but this is a wedding blog, so focus on the “Thank You” note)!

We display all of our Thank You notes on our fridge  – for probably far too long, but sometimes it’s nice to just look back and relive the memory. Each of these cards reminds us of special times with friends that we feel very lucky to have in our lives.

Timelines tend to differ on the amount of time you have to write these after your wedding (but don’t forget about writing them after showers & parties too!), this one says it should be no later than 3 months after the gift is received. After our engagement party, we divided the list of names of folks that were kind enough to attend and wrote notes to each of them. It took us maybe an hour to do them all  – but best of all, it made us smile all over again thinking about how much fun our night was and how awesome our friends and family are.

There are so many options for thank you notes these days too, you can do folded, postcards (as seen above from Michelle & Ian’s fabulous wedding – HAPPY 6 MONTH ANNIVERSARY, love birds!), you can even have stationary created with your new initials, your married monogram or a picture, and still write the note on the paper. You’ve got options… so there are no excuses! Check out Etsy for some creative options!

Having typed notes isn’t the worst thing in the world… not sending them at all takes the cake on that one. We’ve been to 3 weddings that we didn’t get thank you notes from. The first one, I thought maybe our card got separated from our gift and they didn’t know we brought anything but after the other two happened, I chalked it up to laziness. People are taking time out of their lives to celebrate with you – a thank you note is the simplest thing to do, to show them that you care about them too.

Practice your hand writing now and show some love through the mail!

Happy Monday!
