Friday Favorite Finds!

Lots of people have asked me where I’ve found things over the past few months that I plan to use for the wedding or post wedding (such as my new monogrammed necklace!). Mostly, I can attribute my finds to searches on Etsy that started out of boredom and happened into wonderfulness. Pinterest has also had some good finds, but they typically lead me back to Etsy.

First of all, I found this amazing window-pane chalkboard a while back. We plan to use it at the bar to list out drinks/mixers for the wedding. It came from Splash of Lime, a blog created by a mother/daughter team who finds items that we all want and fixes them up and re-sells them at half the cost of which you could find elsewhere. (Special thanks to my most-specialist MOH who picked it up for me!).   chalkboardI also snatched up the sign in front of it from GroopDealz which offers items at low-cost for a short period of time (hence the “snatching”).  LW is not a huge fan of the sign, so we’ll see if it actually gets used but either way, I consider it a good find!

My next most favorite find, were hangers for my super-sweet bridesmaids. An early thank you for all the time and work they have already put in. I seriously have the most thoughtful group of girls that will be standing by my side very soon! They came from DeLovely Details (an Etsy seller) and were a hit!

One of my next favorite finds, this this simple needlepoint framed cross-stitch. It’s message makes me smile. I do think that I’ll end up changing out the frame or at least painting it. It was also an Etsy find, and although it was one of a kind, the shop has some other items that are worth taking a peek at.

Last week, I found a tree-stump cake holder which will proudly display our mini Bride & Groom cake (don’t worry, we’ll have delicious desserts for the guests, as well). I was shocked to find it at Michael’s and for only $14.99 when somewhere else was trying to charge almost 3 times that to RENT one. If you have the time, and ability to be crafty, it can certainly save you a pretty penny in wedding planning. I have a fear that I’m just going to end up with really full craft drawers, and have all of these pretty ideas for years to come. (Any volunteers to come do crafts?!).

cakeMy last, and most favorite find, is my new monogrammed necklace with my brand-spankin’ new initials as of 8-17-13. I am dying to wear this beauty. I had looked at more costly versions (Moon & Lola) in the past but never splurged. Thank goodness! I found this gem on Etsy for a steal!

Happy Friday – and happy LONG weekend!

Wedding favorites

As I’ve said before, I’m a fan of Pinterest and it’s easy DIY ideas… but since we’ve been to 13 or so weddings since we got together, I’ve also picked up ideas here and there. One of our FAVORITE weddings was this past August at Rockwood Manor in my hometown. I decided early on that I wanted a Carolina wedding versus a Virginia wedding… so that’s what we’re having. But Rockwood Manor is the perfect place for an adorable country/southern wedding. My friends Michelle & Ian had THE MOST GORGEOUS wedding there with all of the cutest, personal touches.

And what wedding is complete without a photo booth?

Just a few short weeks after that beautiful shendig, we had another to attend in my favorite spot on earth, Swansboro, NC. Now, although they are both Southern Belles, their weddings were totally different but still totally perfect.

Loving the Bride/Groom signs but I’m picturing burlap bows instead. Every southern gal owns a pair of Jack Rogers… and a TRUE southern gal will have those suckers monogrammed with her new initials before the big day. I’m thinking white ones instead of colored but would love input on that. My bridesmaids will probably be in silver/pewter Jacks depending on the  shade of dress we choose.

And the sweetest detail of Marlana’s wedding was actually at the rehearsal dinner and something done by the groom. We were all swooning over this sweetness…

I definitely want some DIY crafts to be displayed at our wedding…. chalkboards, bows, fun photo booth props, and of course, something very special to do with pictures of us because I am a picture addict (never caught without at least one camera).

Any sweet, personal touches you’ve seen at weddings lately that you think should be incorporated? Of course there are tons of these on Pinterest… I’m sure my head will get full of ideas over the next 9 months!

Pinning & Pining

Ever heard of Pinterest? Well before the ring, I had been pinning away on boards dedicated to the wedding that I was pining over one-day having! But now… that it’s actually happening… so many of my pins aren’t relevant! We’re not having a beach wedding, so nix those cute starfish on the table and flip flops by the edge of the sand ideas. I wore a dress in half of our engagement pictures, so I didn’t get a chance to do a piggy back ride picture (I happen to LOVE piggy back rides – weird, I know).

So I decided to create a new board, that also allowed my very beautiful and oh-so-amazing bridesmaids to pin to it as well. They have been so helpful with the ideas. And one of them got engaged just three tiny weeks after I did, so now she’s busy planning her very own “big day” so I figured since her wedding will be more beach-esque than mine, she can certainly get some ideas from those older pins of mine.

My southern shendig is being planned based on a lot of these “pins.” Virtual planning is very helpful as I’m able to do this from my phone, work or class (shhh!). My sweet sister-in-law bought me a planning book full of checklists and necessities… so between that and my Pinterest boards… I’ve got all the planning utensils I need. Now I just need an unlimited bank account to cover everything!
