Honeymoonin’

I am getting so EXCITED to hop on a plane with my HUSBAND and head to Aruba! I’ve already started planning outfits (and eyeing some others that I’d like to see in my suitcase). I went on a pinning spree last night and added a whole new board for Honeymoon Style. Hopefully this will help me when it comes time to actually pack!

First of all, I’m taking my “How does she do it” bag from Stella & Dot. I have loved this bag from the minute it was released and finally snagged my own. bagOver-packing is a bad habit of mine, but I’m a girl who loves to have options. However, since we’re going for 11 days and I am not interested in carrying multiple suitcases, we’re going to have a serious effort to cut down on what I take. Necessities include: sundresses, shorts, tanks, lots of bathing suits, shoes for our nice dinners and comfy shoes for excursions and sightseeing. So here are some of the styles I am LOVING:

1. My new RayBan Wayfarers

Rayban2. Maxi Dresses … even better if they are Lilly Pulitzer!Lilly3. White Bikinis!

4. A bundle of J Crew shorts and several pair of Jack Rogers will be accompanying me on this trip!

I’m also currently loving stripes and my chambray shirts. Not sure how the long-sleeve clothing will do in Aruba but I can guarantee I’ll take one just in case I get the opportunity to wear it.

And it goes without saying that we’re taking lots of sunscreen! We’re prepared to use SPF 70 when we get there, these honeymooners aren’t taking any chances on ruining our 11 days in paradise!

Not your average dress experience

If you recall, I ordered my dress from J. Crew without having seen it in person or trying it on and it was just as perfect as I imagined. However, this has made the rest of my dress experience a little less traditional than most as well.

Last week, I took my own dress to have it altered (instead of the shop/boutique where I purchased it taking care of all of this – many have in-house alterations). I felt a little empty as I walked away, leaving that bag full of beauty hanging in side waiting to be cut-down and made to fit me perfectly for my big-dream wedding!

When they asked when I’d like to pick it up, I was a little taken back… I’ve heard from friends that they haven’t gotten their dress until 2 weeks before the wedding or had to “borrow it” from the alterations place to have their bridal portraits done and then return it for finishing touches. Anyway, I’m going in April for my first fitting. We only tackled taking it in, the neckline and “less poof” on this first round. The hem/train will be the next piece but I have some decisions to make around that.

Speaking of dresses – I bought this beauty  from Banana Republic a while back and unfortunately it doesn’t fit – so I’m selling it. It would be great for a rehearsal dinner/shower (or any fun party you plan on attending!).

Why do I love monograms?

My sweet fiance asked me why I love monograms so much. Um, should I make a list? I think the better question here is WHO DOESN’T LOVE MONOGRAMS? I am smitten with these Jack Rogers sandals and trying to decide if I want bone/white or navy/white for my wedding day! I’m thinking I could check “something blue” off my list with the navy ones. (PS – love that it gives you a preview of what your monogram will look like!) sandalBut seriously… who doesn’t love a monogram? I have monogrammed notebooks for Pete’s sake! (and stationary, thanks, Emily Ley!) And I carry my monogrammed notebook in my monogrammed L.L. Bean bag! This whole conversation was generated over me entering a Southern Weddings & Monogram Works giveaway for monogrammed napkins. Obviously I picked our favorite color: lime green with a navy “W” smack dab in the middle for all those darling dinner parties we’ll have as a married couple. Okay, maybe we won’t have tons of dinner parties but those napkins would still look mighty cute on our table.

I also hope he realizes I’m going to have to change over all of my current monogrammed stuff to reflect my new last name after August! And I guess he missed the time when I said how I wanted to monogram our wine rack with a big ol’ W. Yeah, that’s gonna happen. (shhh!)
